  • Q: What are your hours of operation?

    A: We are open every day of the week; rain, shine from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with massages starting at 10 a.m. Our last admission is at 8:30 p.m. for the Thermal Pools. We are open on all U.S. Holidays.

  • Q: Why does Refuge enforce the quiet enjoyment of the facility?
    A: Silence is an integral part of the Refuge experience and we ask all of our guests to respect the policy of quiet enjoyment. On site staff will politely and discreetly enforce this policy for the benefit of all. Cell phones and other electronic devices are not a part of the Refuge experience.
  • Q: How far ahead should reservations be made?

    A: Reservations are not available for the Refuge Thermal Pools.  The Refuge Thermal Pools are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and may be limited on high demand days. A waiting period may occur during high season or weekends.  We recommend making massage reservations up to two weeks ahead for the best availability. Please note that our weekends do book up quickly.

  • Q: How are the Thermal Pools treated?

    A: The water in our Thermal Pools is treated through a three filter process of UV light, sand filtering and added chlorine to maintain each individual pools pH balance.

  • Q: Can I make a massage reservation online?

    A: Requests for massage reservations may be made online.  However, the reservation is not confirmed until our Refuge Concierge contacts you to advise if your preferred time is available and a credit card is provided to secure the booking.

  •  Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule my massage appointment?
    A: All reservations must be secured with a valid credit card or gift card. The full reservation value is due, in full, at the time of booking. Courtesy holds or split payments between parties are not available. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the massage reservation will result in a forfeiture of the full value of the booking. Modifications to the massage appointment time within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment will result in a $50 reservation change fee.
  • Q: What if I am running late for my massage?
    A: Arrive within the first 25 minutes of your massage to enjoy the remaining time. After 25 minutes, the massage is deemed a no-show (even if notice was given).
  • Q: Is gratuity included with my massage?
    A: Gratuities for your massage therapist are not included with the price and are given at your discretion. Gratuities are accepted as cash or may be applied to the credit card used at the time of booking.
  • Q: What should I bring?
    A: Bathing suites are required. Upon your arrival, we provide two towels per person in a secured locker. We offer robes on a rental basis ($12). Sandals or flip flops are not provided. Our boutique does have bathing suits and sandals for sale. Water bottles can be purchased at the spa or filtered water is available on site. Please, do not bring any glass containers. Should you wish to wear your own robe, it must be all white. Electronics are not permitted inside, we recommend guest bring non-electronic reading material if they would like.
  • Q: Since your facilities are outdoors, what happens in rain or poor weather?

    A: The Refuge Thermal Pools are open year-round, rain or shine. Our facilities have been designed so that you can enjoy your hydrotherapy experience regardless of the weather.  In case of a thunderstorm, the Pools may be closed.  No reimbursement or compensation will be offered should we need to close our facility due to adverse meteorological conditions that are deemed unsafe.

  • Q: Is there lodging available?

    A: Refuge does not have guest rooms or lodging on site.

  • Q: Are alcoholics drinks allowed?

    A: No. We strongly advise against alcohol consumption during a hydrotherapy experience, which is why it is strictly forbidden. Management reserves the right to prohibit access to clients who appear to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.

  • Q: Can we eat on site?

    A: For a bite to eat before or after your experience, a cafe is situated on site, offering sandwiches, salads, cookies, small treats, fruit juices, tea and coffee. Please note that food cannot be brought into Refuge and guests do not have in-and-out privileges. The cafe is open from 11am to 5pm most days.

  • Q: Are children allowed on site?

    A: No, the Refuge is reserved for adults of 18 years and over.

  • Q: I am pregnant. Can I have a massage anyway? Is it possible to use the Pools?

    A: Our Massage Therapists are not trained to give a massage that is suited to the conditions of pregnant women.  The Refuge Thermal Pools are not recommended for pregnant women because sudden temperature changes can lead to complications. Please consult your doctor.

  • Q: Can I receive care if I am under medication or suffering from certain health problems?

    A: If you are taking medication or have particular health problems Please consult your physician about using Refuge.

     

  • Q: Can I bring pets into Refuge?

    A: We are not a pet friendly facility.  Please refrain from bringing animals to Refuge or from leaving them in the car as the weather in Carmel can change quickly and become dangerous to the animal's well-being.

  • Q: Is it necessary to fully undress to receive treatment?

    A: Our Massage Therapists work professionally, with the greatest respect for each individual. You may wish to know that a sheet covers you at all times to respect your privacy. Only the area being massaged is uncovered. It is more comfortable to receive a massage when no clothing is worn, but we respect the choice of our clients who prefer to keep clothes on.

  • Q: Are the pools natural hot springs?

    The Refuge Thermal Pools are man-made thermal pools.

  • Q: What are high demand periods?

    High demand periods are weekends, holidays and summer season.  High demand days may result in a waiting period. Reservations are not available for access to the Refuge Thermal Pools.  Access is available on a first-come, first-serve basis and may be limited.
